I’ve ordered a large quantity of output mixer pcb upgrades for the x0xi0 Full kits. This has all but eliminated any clicking noises, actually even much better than a TB-303. This upgrade is for use with both my custom pcb and stock pcb’s. The new part will come with all future kits. For those with kits currently on hand the part will be very inexpensive (probably $5 incl. postage). More details will come when the production parts arrive.
I’ve updated the parts lists with larger pics of the capacitors.
I’m still working on integrating the blog into the website.
The last remaining back-ordered part for the 2nd run kits has come in. It’s the encoder for S2, it’s a high qulity Alps part with the correct shaft length. Also, most of the 2nd run kits were sent out with only one 3.3uF tantalum cap. Those of you with full kit serial #’s 124 through 144 will be getting the cap and the encoder sent by first class mail.
I’ve done a lot of work testing the x0xi0 kit signal-to-noise problems in relation to clicking sounds coupling into the mix output. Many people have asked about the clicking sounds and I have found that most kits that I have worked on to this point do have clicking problems to varying degrees. The TB-303 actually has the same problems but the signal level is down enough it’s not really audible in the main output. The clicks are coupled from the gate and trigger signals. The circuitry is close to the output mixer and the high frequency bouncing of the gate and the trigger itself can get into the mixer stage. Also with the x0xi0 kits there is an additional trigger circuit for the new envelope generator that can possibly do the same if circuitry is close to the VCA or output mixer. The further testing came about as I was testing the new mainboards when to my dismay I found I still had similar clicking problems even after paying careful attention to the layout. The outcome of this testing will be specific instructions on how to eliminate the problem with the x0xi0 kits for both the regular x0xb0x mainboard and the custom version.
